“P-47” Cowling Project “Forget Me Not”

Here is the first of two recent private commission “P-47” cowling projects completed! For this one I was given a blank canvas… authentic period correct looking but artistic free reign to do whatever I wanted to do… so I chose a 1945 photo of Yvonne De Carlo (aka Lily Munster) as inspiration because I’ve always wanted to draw her. She is iconic as Lily Munster but during WWII she was gorgeous in the 1945 movie Salome, Where She Danced and even starred with John Wayne in some Westerns. I chose the name to remind people that Yvonne DeCarlo was in a ton of movies and was a Yank Magazine pin up girl long before The Munsters. And since this is for a private collector, his desire for a period correct piece outweighed the usual need for modesty on typical warbird projects. I am really pleased with the final piece. I do know that I sanded forever and ever to get this cowling to look this good and I have figured out the best system to get it accomplished. The MyPerfectColor OD ANA 613 looks great and their ANA 501 blue looks fantastic in the sun. I will miss her!
